The Needs of Others By: David Korn
A good way to respond to the needs of others is through listening and paying attention. Ask them questions if you need clarification. Many times people just want to speak to someone. Therefore, listening to them and responding to them diligently will show that you are responding to their needs. After listening to the needs of the person, you can offer to help them accomplish their task. Taking action will show them that you are trying to help them with their need or want. Sometimes the person doesn’t know what to do or is unable to complete their task. Therefore, helping them accomplish what they want will go a long way. If you are unable to respond to their need right away, you can offer other ways in helping them. This can be accomplished by asking others to help, doing research with them, organizing a meeting, and so on. That way they will see that you are helping them in some way even though you can’t directly tend to their need. It is important to make people feel needed and wanted. This will help you to be seen as a likeable individual. If you respond to people’s needs, then there is a good chance it will be reciprocated back to you. However, there are appropriate times to decline requests. Each circumstance will warrant a response or not. When you determine this within reason, you can better respond to the needs of others. |
