Showing Honesty

By: David Korn

Honesty is an extremely important trait to have, along with being loyal. There are circumstances that can allow lying such as in the case of one’s safety. But, otherwise, make an effort to be as truthful as you can. White lies do add up over time. You can get away with the occasional lie, but I suggest only if it protects the interests of others.

Honesty is a valued trait to have since it builds trust. For many people, being dishonest can breach this trust. It can be hard to regain someone’s trust. Therefore, it is important to be honest regularly. People will appreciate the fact that you are honest, even if the situation warrants otherwise.

Dishonesty can get you into trouble, especially in the corporate and legal world. Showing dishonesty has cost the financial and emotional lives of many people. In many situations, being dishonest the first time around causes someone to continue being dishonest in order to cover up the first set of lies. It can become a vicious cycle that is hard to stop.

In the end, honesty usually wins. Many people have gotten away with dishonesty and profited from it. But, they will have to deal with their conscious over time. This can affect their personality and emotional well-being. Be honest as much as you can and your relationships with others will prosper.
