Losing Weight Naturally

By: David Korn

How many times in our lives have we tried to lose weight and have not succeeded? There are a multitude of reasons as to why losing weight can be so difficult. Many sources have cited genetics, emotional causes, environmental influences, social pressures, and so on. Well, it may not look so easy to do, but there is a very simple way to losing weight. We have all heard to watch fat intake, carbohydrates, and on and on.

Losing weight has to do with calories. Calories are a way our body uses energy. Every food or drink we consume has a calorie output, even if it is at 0. The more calories you consume than what your body needs, you will gain weight. Likewise, the less calories you consume than what your body needs, you will lose weight.

Now, you are probably saying to yourself “Keeping track of calories is going to be too hard.” Well, there are methods to monitor your calorie intake, so that you can lose a healthy amount of weight per week. The first step in determining how many calories you need per day is through the following simple formulas:

For males: Take your weight and multiply it by 15. (Example: 150 lbs. x 15 = 2250).

For females: Take your weight and multiply it by 13. (Example: 120 lbs. x 13 = 1560).

These estimates may be a little conservative, but these figures were attained to be on the safe side. Now, a good goal is to aim for is a 500 calorie loss per day. That will amount to 1 pound of weight loss per week, since 1 pound = 3,500 calories. This is a natural and healthy way to lose weight. In the long term, you are better off doing it this way as opposed to quick fix diet plans. In order to create a deficit of 500 calories per day, you can do this in one of two ways. The first way is by diet only. The second way is half diet and half exercise (250 calorie deficit each). Of course, the second way is the better way.
