Letting Go

By: David Korn

Learning to let go is one of the best ways to cope with life. Unfortunately, many people don’t know how to let go. Some people can naturally let go easier than others. A lot has to do with personality, personal philosophy, and life experiences. However, we can still learn to let go and integrate this into our lives regardless. By doing so, we can receive many benefits such as peace of mind.

Letting go means having acceptance. Many situations are thrown at us and we need to cope as a result. Many times the situation is ongoing and we can’t change too many things. Accepting this fact can help us to cope better. If changes are needed, it is best of course to make them. But, acceptance along the way will help to make that easier. Sometimes things happen because it is the nature of things. We tend to question why things occur. Instead, accepting them will help to get rid of confusion that may lurk in our minds.

Knowing that many things are beyond our control will help us to let go. Situations occur beyond our control and we are once again forced to cope with them. Letting go of these situations can help reduce our frustration levels. Knowing that we can’t always change situations and instead deal with them can be a better way to look at things. In addition to letting go, having some hope that things will get better will be helpful as well.

Knowing the nature of impermanence can help us to let go. Practically anything in life is impermanent. This includes our thoughts, feelings, situations, and so on. Letting go of our thoughts can help reduce a lot of stress. Sometimes we feel that our feelings or a situation will last forever. This is almost never the case, especially if you can act upon a change. Seeing your thoughts as fleeting moments in time can also help you to let go of them.

In life, it may be necessary to let things go. Otherwise, things can eat away at us over time. As a result, this may be unhealthy. Knowing many of the fundamentals of nature will help you to let go of thoughts, situations, and people. As always, knowledge goes hand in hand. Letting go is not as hard as it seems. Once you practice letting go more often, you will feel its benefit.
