Learning to Have Patience By: David Korn
A great reason to develop patience is to reduce your stress levels. Common everyday occurrences such as traffic, grocery store lines, and slow downloads create unnecessary tension. Learning to remain calm and knowing that we have little control over external events can help us to reduce stress. Lacking patience stems from many of our desires. We want material objects or situations to occur immediately. It is important to understand that many great things aren’t built overnight. Most things do indeed take time to develop. Understanding that by waiting, good things will come. Knowing that we may not get the results we want will help us to understand that it has to do with our lack of control. Many believe that by being patient, they are prolonging their suffering. Well, patience actually tries to minimize suffering by being at ease with time itself. Desires tend to lead to suffering and learning to have patience will reduce the amount of suffering. As you develop more patience, learn to take control of what you are able to. For instance, you can wake up earlier if you are late to work. Knowing that you do have some degree of control will help ease the tension. To develop more patience, try to relax, distract yourself a bit, and learn to enjoy the moment more often. We all have wants and needs, but it is unrealistic to have them all met right away. People who exhibit patience are often looked up to. Besides, it doesn’t look good if one is antsy and panics when in a situation. Learning to have patience will help you to become a better leader and give you the wisdom to live a more peaceful life. |
