Learning to Accept

By: David Korn

Learning to accept things in our life will help us to feel at ease. Having acceptance is good for our emotional health and fosters healing. Many people have difficult accepting things. Understanding the knowledge behind acceptance is important in these cases. Sometimes it is best to accept things the way they are. But, we can still work to improve on things even while we have acceptance.

Understanding that we can’t always change things will help us to gain acceptance. Many times, despite our best efforts, we can’t cause a change. The idea is to never give up though if a change is warranted. But, accepting the current situation will help to ease frustration. Wanting to change things such as personality, other people, or situations can be quite a task. Therefore, accepting these things is usually the best thing to do, unless a change is drastically needed.

Many things are beyond out control. We want to obtain items right away, get information that we cannot obtain, or other things that seem out of reach. Many times accepting that we don’t have the power to get what we want all the time is a good idea. Many people are persistent at trying to get what they want. But, whenever they don’t get what they want, anger and frustration can arise. It is best to have some acceptance in order to minimize the stress levels.

Understanding the nature of impermanence is helpful when it comes to acceptance. It can be said that practically nothing in life is permanent. This also applies to each moment where our thoughts and feelings are fleeting moments in time. Knowing that things are impermanent can help you to accept situations. Many times we go through bad situations in life. Learning to accept them and working on improving them will help keep us going.

Acceptance is not always easy to have. Many people are impatient, frustrated, and upset. It is important to keep acceptance in mind during rough emotions. Sometimes we can’t accept things right away, but in time it can happen. Once we learn to accept on a regular basis, we can feel more at ease with ourselves and with life itself.
