Keep Your Computer Running Smoothly By: David Korn
To start, having a surge protector for your computer is very important. This will help keep your computer in tact when events occur. These may include sudden power outages, lightning strikes, or other electricity issues. Keeping your computer in an organized place will prove invaluable. Make sure you keep and store all of the disks or software that came with your computer in a good location. You never know when you might need them again. Start and shut down your computer properly and by waiting for these processes to finish. This will help prevent any unnecessary freezes. Also, any internet service will do, but high speed internet is most recommended. According to statistics, a lot of people don’t pay attention to updating as much as they should. Many of our programs need to be tended to. Just like educating a child, we need to foster the growth of our computer files. Turning on automatic updates in your operating system is the first step to ensuring a working and more secure computer. You can go to updates by right clicking on my computer, then to properties, and off to the automatic updates tab. For software programs, you may choose to put on automatic updates on those as well. You can also manually update them. If you choose that route, I’d recommend manually updating your programs at least a few times a month. As mentioned before, too many programs can cause clutter and slow down the computer. It is wise to monitor what you download and how many programs you download. If you wish to download a lot of programs or files, external storage devices can keep the burden off of the computer. Having the antivirus software scan downloads can also prevent future risk. The main focus of this article is for a smooth running computer. I advise against using your computer as a storage device. Rather, using external devices for storage can alleviate clutter on the computer. If you follow the tasks outlined in this article regularly, you should minimize any potential problems with your computer. Finally, if you have difficulty finding what you are looking for in this guide, you can use the search function in your computer regardless of the operating system. |
