Introduction to Philosophy By: David Korn
The study of knowledge, or epistemology, is a branch of philosophy that is greatly studied. Knowledge has its origins and also has its limitations. Human knowledge is a fabric that is intertwined. This can also be explained neurologically. Knowledge is one of the best helpers in life. Acquiring knowledge has its responsibilities since it can be questioned, refuted, and formulated. Many of us question our existence. Existentialism is a branch of philosophy that focuses on our uniqueness. Free will is a major part of our ability to make choices. As we make choices, we affect things internally and externally. We must also be aware of the responsibilities and consequences of our actions. Existence is very important in our lives since this determines many of our actions for the sake of survival. Our mind, emotions, and body are all connected in some way. Many philosophers question the nature of our minds in a monistic, dualistic, or idealistic way. In psychology, it is understood that thoughts cause feelings. Therefore, mental affects the physical. There are many ways to interpret the meaning of this connection. Philosophers question the nature of our minds and bodies to get a better understanding of why things occur. Morality and ethics is an important branch of philosophy. Human behavior is a big part of sociology and how we interact with each other. Adhering to standard conduct is an important way in which society functions. Therefore, laws and unwritten laws were created. Many religions uphold the value of ethics and morality as well. If it were not for morals and ethics, pandemonium would ensue. Society can function well due to the upholding of morality and ethics. Philosophy can be a useful tool in determining your main questions to life. Questioning, examining, and analyzing things in greater detail can help to solve mysteries that lurk in your mind. Many great philosophers have said many inspiring quotes that still help us until today. Many are very bright and benevolent individuals trying to make a difference in our world. |
