Improving Your Memory By: David Korn
Doing brain activities and taking care of one’s health are great ways to improve your memory. Playing word games, crossword puzzles, visualization, repetition, and much more are ways in which you can progress the memory. Doing these on a regular basis is what’s important. In addition, eating a good diet and drinking plenty of water will help in memory improvement. If you forget something, it is good to remember what led up to the event before and after for memory recall. Try to remember step by step the things that occurred right before you forgot the item of interest. Usually, something will trigger the memory along the way. Try this at least several times to improve chances of success. Little bits and pieces of information can add up together to make you remember what you originally forgot. A good way to improve memory is through the use of mnemonics. A mnemonic is a memory aid which can be easily remembered. For example, in mathematics we are taught to remember the order of operations through the term: “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.” Each letter stands for a different mathematical operation. Another example would be through association. For instance, you could remember that the sky is blue through the ocean being blue. There are many other types of mnemonics and utilizing them can help to improve your memory. Forgetfulness can cause a lot of difficulties. Having a good memory can save you time and make you more effective. For instance, it is important to remember people’s names, especially in a business setting. Having the memory to remember small details will make you look good. Therefore, it is a good idea to practice on improving your memory often. By doing so, you’ll be glad you remembered that important item down the road. |
