How to Delegate By: David Korn
There are many reasons that hold us back from being able to delegate tasks to others. This includes making excuses, such as not having enough time, not knowing how to delegate, fear of overloading the other, and so on. The idea is to minimize these ways of thinking by having a thorough discussion with the other person. Letting them know that you could use some help can make them more willing to take on the task. Finding the right time to discuss the delegation is important. It wouldn’t be a good idea to ask someone to do something in the middle of being very busy. Giving them tasks they can actually handle is also important. When they begin the delegated task, ask for feedback often. Giving proper instructions along the way will also help them to complete the task more efficiently. If they have trouble accepting your plea, give them motivation for completing the task. You can say that it will help them to learn, gain experience, gain recognition, and so on. Making it worthwhile for the person can help them to continue the task. When they complete the task, reward them for doing a good job. Proper delegation will give you better control in your life. Sometimes things tend to pile up, and delegating tasks to others can save you time and frustration. Being as helpful as possible will make it seem like you are not being bossy. Offering them a way out in case they can’t handle the task will keep them at ease. |
