Having a Routine

By: David Korn

Having a routine can help keep you organized. Being a routinized individual can make life a lot easier as well. Studies show that our brain likes routine, more or less. Therefore, establishing and adapting to a routine can alleviate stress. Sometimes life can get chaotic. Routinization can help to minimize the chaos and put us at ease.

A big part of our life is our wake and sleep cycle. Studies show that it is important to go to sleep and wake up around the same time everyday. This is usually taken care of due to school and work activities. But, many times we veer off this pattern if we have odd schedules or due to the weekends itself. It is difficult to follow erratic times since this can make us tired and less productive. It is recommended to establish a regular sleeping routine in order to feel the best you can.

As mentioned before, work and school can take up a big part of our lives as well. In turn, this can help us keep a routine. Sometimes there are work and school schedules that can throw off our routine. This may be due to different scheduling reasons. Even still, knowing your schedule and sticking to it by adjusting your day around it will help you to keep that routine. It is helpful to leave your home at the same time everyday and early enough in order to anticipate traffic or other delays.

Establishing an eating routine can be helpful in your life. Sometimes we eat at random times or whenever we want. By doing so, this can cause fluctuations in our weight and result in weight loss or weight gain. Eating at the same times everyday can help minimize any detrimental weight control issues. It is understandable if we have to skip meals at times, but sticking to the routine will help us to manage our weight in the long run.

Following a routine can be very useful in our lives. Even doing chores and errands on a routine basis can help us to remember them. It is understandable if we veer off our routines from time to time. We can’t always stop interruptions or delays, so this is to be expected. But, overall, following a routine in all areas of your life will help you to stay organized. Many will argue that having a routine will be boring. However, you can always add some fun and not being exact all the time will make it seem less robotic. Furthermore, being routinized will make your body happier in the long run.
