Fear of Change

By: David Korn

The fear of change is a common phobia for many people. As a result, we develop a resistance to change. Overcoming this resistance to change isn’t easy at first, but it can be done with relative ease. Many people like to feel secure. Therefore, we become hesitant to change something over time. Getting over the fear of change means to embrace the future as a golden opportunity.

Our fear and resistance to change often comes with negative thoughts. We many times assume that something bad is going to happen. The unknown becomes scary for many individuals. The idea is to think positively about the change. Bringing forth a change can mean great things. Change can open up an array of new possibilities. Changing for the better can also help us to grow as individuals. There are many positive reasons as to overcome your fear of change.

The fear of the unknown plays a role in the fear of change. Often times, fear comes in a bundle of other fears. Working on the inner fears one at time will help you to overcome the fear of change. It is ok to take certain risks in life. Without taking risks, we prevent ourselves from growing. Of course, if the risk is too dangerous, we steer clear of this change. But, in general, change is good for us.

Adapting to change along the way will help give you comfort. If you don’t like the change as time goes on, you can work on changing other things to better accommodate yourself. In many cases, there is always a going back to the way things were before the change occurred. Sometimes, it is ok to change back to the old way. However, seeking out positive rewards along this path is a great way to overcome the fear of change. As a result, positive gains will make you less resistant to change.

Change is usually inevitable in life. Sometimes we just want things to stay the same because we are comfortable with the way things are. But, if things remain the same, there is a potential for us to stagnate. Changing for the better is what is often recommended for personal growth and development. Adapting to new situations and getting involved in many different things will help you to become a more experienced individual. After getting used to changes over time, the fear of change can diminish enough to keep you happy.
