Facing the Unknown By: David Korn
A way to deal with the unknown is to understand that many things are beyond our control. Situations will occur in the future in which we have little or no control over. Not knowing what will happen can certainly cause a fear of the unknown. But, knowing that things are going to happen regardless can help you to deal with it. In addition, there are probabilities of events that occur and knowing the outcomes can ease some fear. When looking into the unknown, drawing upon past experiences can offer assistance. It has been confirmed by many educators that the past is a good indicator of the future. This holds true in psychology as well when it comes to behaviors. Knowing the likelihood of past events occurring can help you to face the unknown. In addition, knowing that a bad outcome will occur due to a higher probability can help you to avoid that future situation. Your beliefs will have an influence on how you deal with the unknown. Some people have negative beliefs on outcomes. Some will think more positively on outcomes. In addition, some believe that things happen for a reason. Also, some feel that we do have at least some control over future occurrences. Therefore, many will face the unknown with a different set of beliefs. If your current beliefs are causing you concern, aiming for a more positive light can help you to cope with the unknown. The unknown has fascinated many of us in our lives. Everyone will deal with the unknown in their own unique way. Some are brave and some are anxious when facing the unknown. One of the best ways to cope with the unknown is knowledge. The more you learn about something, the better your conclusions can be. Therefore, you can face the unknown with more confidence. |
