Emotional Wellness By: David Korn
Psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy teaches us that feelings derive from our thoughts. While situations and circumstances seem to affect us emotionally, it is the thoughts that arise from these events that cause our feelings. Our emotions are always in motion. We have approximately 65,000 thoughts on any given day. Each thought will render a different feeling and have a certain level of power. Unless we work on changing our thinking patterns, our thoughts may continue to haunt us. We all know what negative emotions are like. We experience them on a daily basis. What many of us have trouble with is working on these negative feelings. Many people lack the necessary skills to learn how to effectively deal with the onslaught of negative emotions. Unfortunately, many will turn to drugs, alcohol, and abusive behaviors to deal with them. But, there is a way out. Humans have a deep yearning for positive feelings. We very often want to just feel good. However, many good feelings aren’t always long lasting. Since our mind comes with a variety of emotions, it is important to learn to feel good regardless. You can even find hope and peace in the midst of the worst situations in life. Emotional wellness plays an important role in our lives. Learning to live with both good and bad feelings will make you a stronger individual. One of the core components to mental health is through the examination of our thoughts. Our minds can be our best friend or our enemy. Taking the time to examine and work on improving your thoughts will help you to feel better emotionally. |
