Decision Making Process

By: David Korn

The decision making process can be a complex one for many. Indecisiveness is something that affects all of us from time to time. Learning how to make decisions on a regular basis will expedite things more efficiently. Many leaders and people in high positions need to make decisions on a regular basis. Knowing how and when to decide on something will help you to become a better leader.

When formulating a decision, we sometimes come up with a lot of scenarios in our mind. Many times this leads to indecisiveness and procrastination. It would be a good idea to come up with a bunch of best case scenarios when arriving at a decision. Also, knowing what could go wrong is important as well. After we see what is available, we can move forward.

Weighing the pros and cons of a decision is important. Many times when we make a decision, it affects something else. It can also lead to sacrifices and well as some gains. The idea is not to cause too many sacrifices while keeping others in mind. We want to make sure the best possible outcome arrives from making a decision for us all.

Once you come close to picking the best decision, be prepared to stand by it. Sometimes you can change and modify the decision as time goes on. But, many times the impact will already be seen when a decision is made. In some cases a decision can be reversed. If you feel that the decision you made is detrimental, then seeking out a reversal may rectify the situation.

Decision making takes time and it involves using your best judgment. Knowing that a decision can impact yourself and others will allow you to weight the pros and cons of making one. Once you are able to make more decisions, you will become less indecisive. Asking others for help and advice is also a good idea. Sometimes we can’t do it all on our own.
