Dealing with Frustration By: David Korn
A good way in dealing with frustration is recognizing when it begins. Try to notice the thoughts you are having while you are feeling frustrated. Many times they will be negative. Try to change your thinking into realistic and positive thoughts to help you feel better. Many times frustration is caused by a lack of patience or not getting what you want. In these cases, continue to work on what you are trying to achieve. Learning to calm down and taking a few breaths while feeling frustrated can help. Sometimes our emotions run very high and minimizing its impact is important. If a situation is causing you too much frustration, try removing yourself from it. If the situation is ongoing, try to stay away from the situation as much as you can. Ongoing frustration is a sign that you need to take action to eliminate the problem. Finding a solution to a situation or dilemma can ease your frustrations. Sometimes a lot of hard work and dedication is necessary to achieve your desired results. Understand that everyone in similar situations had to experience frustrations before. It would be nice if many things in life were free of frustration. But, it is expected since we can get impatient and antsy at times. Learning to deal with these emotions will help to reduce or eliminate frustration. If someone else is contributing to your frustration, open and direct communication can help to clear things up. Sometimes the other person is unaware that they are causing you grief. Therefore, having a talk with that person can help to resolve the situation. Things do change over time when it comes to situations. Therefore, you may experience frustration setbacks from time to time. Knowing how to deal with frustration with effectiveness will help you to manage your feelings in times of despair. |
