Dealing with Distractions By: David Korn
• Focus: Learn how to focus your attention on one particular task. Multitasking usually causes a drop in quality as our minds can only concentrate on one thing at a time. When we multitask, we are constantly shifting our attention between the individual tasks. • Isolate Yourself: Finding a quiet place can be beneficial to completing your task. You can screen out distractions and are able to better focus. If this is not possible, try to isolate yourself mentally and letting others know you’ll get back to them later. • Organization: Organizing your work or living space can help ease the mind. Lots of clutter can distract our minds. Making sure you have enough supplies to complete your task is important as well. • Negotiate: Learn how to negotiate with people when you are focusing on a task. You can let them know you will get back to them later. Also, you can explain that you are doing something important and ask them for patience. These points will help you to steer clear of many distractions. Being able to integrate them together will grant you greater control in your life. You will be able to be more efficient, productive, and effective. As a result, you can focus more on managing your time. |
