Dealing with Depression By: David Korn
>
Another extremely common emotional disturbance is depression. Many of us believe that situations will cause our depression. While situations do indirectly impact our feelings, it is the thoughts about these situations that directly cause our depression. What we need to do is to change our thinking in order to effectively deal with depression.Expectations play a big role in how we feel. Of course, expectations have to do with our thinking. When we want something more than what we have, we tend to get depressed. Negative beliefs also influence our mood. Seeing things in a more positive light can help combat depression. Much like with anxiety, working on thought management and being persistent at it along with research on what is bothering you can ease depression. Jealousy and envy are traits that can cause depression and grief. Humans tend to want what others have. Knowing that we can’t always get what we want in life will give you wisdom in dealing with depression. Instead, try to be happy for others since everyone experiences down points in their lives. Changing your thinking pattern from negative to realistic or positive can go a long way in dealing with depression. Replacing and catching negative thoughts with realistic beliefs will certainly help. It is best to gain the knowledge behind what is bothering you in order to use those thoughts to replace the old thinking pattern. Over time, your thinking will change and it is best to keep at it until the mind mellows out. |
