Counting Calories

By: David Korn

Getting used to counting calories may take some time to do. Eventually, it will become natural and you won’t have to keep track every single time. What you would need to do is pay attention to the labels. Each nutritional label gives you information on the number of calories and the portion size.

For each meal, keep an estimate of how many calories you are consuming. Also, include snacks and drinks throughout the day. You can use measuring cups or other devices that will aid you in doing so. Adjust the calorie intake such that it meets your body’s needs. The idea is to then subtract 500 calories from what your body needs based on the above formulas if you are trying to lose weight.

Keeping a journal or diary is useful for counting calories. You can write down your diet plan and fill in the numbers as you go along. At the end of the day, you will have a running total of your total daily caloric intake. For losing weight, going below your recommended amount is important. If you are trying to gain weight, going above your recommended amount is what to do.

Counting calories is not as hard as you think. After some time, you will be able to naturally count calories based on figures and serving sizes without having to write it down. You will have a good idea as to what each size amounts to. Then you can adjust accordingly to meet your dietary goals.
