Choosing Wisely

By: David Korn

Knowing how to make choices is very important in life. It is best to choose wisely along the way. Understanding the rewards and risks are important for making the right choice. There may also be unintended consequences as the result of the choices we make. Therefore, choosing wisely should be considered for future endeavors.

In order to make the right choices, it is good to evaluate the risks and outcomes. Sometimes a choice we make will have ongoing effects on ourselves and others. These effects may do more harm than good. But, on the flip side, a choice can make a meaningful impact for years to come. Therefore, it is important to think through and research the results of making a choice.

There are many positive effects that result from choosing wisely. You may start to notice these gains right away or they may take time. It is good to keep in mind that certain choices will take a lot of time. A lack of patience may hamper this and reverse the choice that was made. Many times we want instant results. However, making the right choice can take some time and the payoff can be greater.

Besides positive effects, making a choice can result in negative effects. Unfortunately, we are going to make some bad choices in our lives. It is useful to correct or modify these choices down the road. In addition, making a bad choice can impact people we care about. It is important to keep this in mind since the things we do can have a direct impact on others. Therefore, in addition to choosing for yourself, think about others as well.

There is much philosophical debate on our ability to choose. However, it is important to deal with the consequence of our choices along the way. It is best to make smart choices to avoid future dilemmas. In addition, making the right choice can have a lasting impact on someone else. By making a good example, we can help them to make the right choices on their own.
