Boosting Self-Esteem

By: David Korn

Many individuals deal with self-esteem issues. It is very common, especially in the younger population. In order to boost self-esteem, it is important you focus on your good qualities as opposed to your bad ones. Sure, it is a good idea to work on the bad qualities. But, knowing that you are good for who you are can help with your esteem. Also, focusing on your talents and abilities can outweigh your deficiencies. We can only do so much, so make the best of what you possess.

Our self-esteem can drop if we are rejected or receive too much negative feedback. Realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and free will. This will help you to let go of other people’s words and actions. And, undoubtedly, there will be people that accept you for who you are. Focus on those people to help build your self-esteem and eliminate negative influences.

Being productive can assist in boosting your self-esteem. Keeping busy with school, work, social activities, family events, and so on will help steer your mind clear of negative thoughts. In addition, this will make you look favorable in the eyes of others.

If your self-esteem starts to dip again, keep reminding yourself of your positive attributes. Also, keep in mind that most people are pretty understanding. We may have unrealistic expectations about what other people think. The ones who aren’t as accepting are the ones you can try to avoid. Latch onto others that accept you for who you are.
