Benefits of Volunteering

By: David Korn

I would like to encourage you to be a more active volunteer. I will outline many of the benefits of volunteering. But, I want to emphasize the sole reason to volunteer. Many people often volunteer in order to benefit themselves in some way. However, unconditional giving is what I want to endorse.

Volunteering is a great way to meet people and experience new things. You open yourself to many doors of opportunity when you decide to donate your time. Networking, learning new skills, and seeing the world are great reasons to volunteer. In addition, employers will view you as more favorable in comparison to others.

Aside from all the nice benefits, volunteering is about giving and helping. That is what humans are meant to do. Opening up your spirits will benefit you farther than the tangible benefits. We all want to make a difference. Well, volunteering is the way to achieve that. Amidst your busy life, try to find time to volunteer. Even if it is once a month, it will make a difference.

I volunteered heavily in my college years. I worked in the campus volunteer center and within community affairs for quite some time. It was one of the most rewarding jobs that I have ever experienced. Putting a smile on someone’s face was priceless. When I helped run an organ donation carnival, the response I got from one of the leaders was “Thank you for helping us save lives!” That was all worth it. Now, go out there and make a difference today!
