Being Supportive

By: David Korn

Being a supportive individual shows others that you care. This is especially important for developing children. They need to know they are cared for. To show support, you can do so in a variety of ways. These include attending events, being there for them, praising them, and much more. Try being just a little more supportive and it will lighten up the eyes of others.

Spending a lot of quality time with the ones you care about shows support. Studies show that socializing more often, especially with ones that are close to you, can make you feel psychologically healthier. People spend time with each other in a variety of ways. Some like to converse, go out, or play games together. Finding the best way to be with someone is beneficial.

When people are feeling down, being supportive is especially important. Many people need a helping hand in the midst of turmoil. Showing that you are there to help and support them will mean the world to them. You can offer advice, financial support, or whatever they need at the moment. Unconditional support, which is expecting nothing in return, can prove more favorable in the eyes of others.

Many people need encouragement and praise as situations become tougher. Helping to build their self-confidence will show that you are supportive. When they do a good job, offer praise and reward to make them happier. They will remember that you are showing support and this will help motivate them to continue.

Practically everyone needs support at some time or another. Showing support to people you care about, and even strangers will go a long way. It is easy to criticize and be negative with others. Avoiding those behaviors and giving realistic or positive encouragement will look better. In addition, if you ever need support, the ones you supported in the past will most likely be more willing to reciprocate.
