Being Responsive

By: David Korn

Response times for individuals vary on many different circumstances. People naturally want to be heard and responded to. Not responding or ignoring someone you care about can cause tension and disarray. The majority of people, especially customers and coworkers, appreciate a quick response time. When conversing with individuals, it is best to always respond to them, except in some circumstances. Doing so will show that you are listening to them and that you care.

In our society, many people are impatient. Therefore, most people appreciate a fast response time when replying through communicative means. This includes e-mail, telephone, and so on. You’d be surprised how many people will comment saying “Thanks for the speedy reply.” As a result, you will build rapport with them for the future.

Being responsive is a good trait to have. This will show that you take responsibility in situations. It is easy to forget tasks and people throughout the day. Being mindful of this will allow you to respond as soon as possible. Many times, the longer you make someone wait, the faster they will disappear or be upset with you. Make it a priority to respond quickly to the needs of others.

Different situations entail different response times. In general, the quicker the response, the more appreciation you will receive. Some people and situations can be more forgiving of slower response times. Using correct judgment in these cases will be beneficial. Being available and responding quickly will make you a more likeable individual.
