Becoming More Active

By: David Korn

Becoming more active is important for our physical health. Physical inactivity can lead to all sorts of problems in life. Studies show that inactivity and sedentary behavior leads to higher incidents of disease, cancer, and other ailments. To prevent such physical problems, it is recommended to be physically active throughout the week. There are many benefits in doing so as well.

It is recommended to be physically active for 30 minutes at least several times a week. This can be either continuous or broken into parts. For instance, you can exercise in 10 minute bouts as opposed to a continuous 30 minute session. However, it is argued that a 30 minute continuous session yields higher benefits than shorter bouts. As always, before starting an exercise regime, consult your medical practitioner for advice.

You can become physically active indoors. There are several ways to exercise while indoors. These include dance aerobics, step stools, stair climbing, gyms, exercise facilities, and so on. Many people choose to exercise indoors due to the weather and convenience. Adding music or watching television while being physically active can make it fun. It is important to alternate at times such that you don’t get bored, unless you are really disciplined.

In addition to being physically active indoors, you can exercise in the outdoors. These include jogging, walking, hiking, climbing, swimming, biking, and so on. In addition, many sports provide outdoor physical activity. Many like to exercise outdoors due to a change in scenery and for the fresh air. It is a good idea to incorporate both indoor and outdoor physical activity to provide variety.

Being inactive can cause us to slump and lose energy. Becoming more physically active will make us feel better in the long run. You can also exercise with other people if you dislike doing it alone. Sometimes it motivates you to become more active by being with other people. Many clubs and groups are formed around exercise. Either way, becoming more physically active will ensure you greater health and longevity in many areas in life.
